Key Applications of Optical Release Film in Display Panel Manufacturing
Display panel manufacturing—encompassing LCD, OLED, and Mini/Micro LED technologies—relies heavily on optical release film for its ability to protect sensitive components and ensure precision assembly. In OLED production, optical release film serves as a temporary carrier for thin-film encapsulation layers and adhesive films, enabling clean peeling without damaging the fragile OLED substrate. Its high transmittance allows for in-process optical inspection, ensuring defects are detected early in the manufacturing cycle.
Optical Release Film
For LCD panels, optical release film is used in the lamination of polarizers and touch sensors. The film’s uniform release force ensures that polarizers adhere evenly to the LCD substrate, preventing air bubbles and ensuring consistent light transmission—critical for maintaining display color accuracy and contrast. In Mini/Micro LED displays, where pixel sizes are measured in micrometers, optical release film’s ultra-low surface roughness (Ra <0.03μm) prevents scratches on micro-LED chips during assembly.
Additionally, optical release film plays a vital role in flexible display manufacturing, where it enables the handling of flexible substrates (such as polyimide) during bending and lamination processes. Its dimensional stability ensures that adhesive layers align precisely, even when the film is bent or stretched. As display technologies trend toward higher resolution, flexibility, and thinner profiles, the demand for high-performance optical release film with tailored release forces and optical properties continues to surge.
