The difference and usage of release paper and release film

There are countless die-cutting materials, each with its own unique characteristics and functions. In die-cutting processes, release films and release papers are commonly used and are likely familiar to everyone. However, for those who are new to the industry or have less exposure to them, they may not be able to distinguish between the two. Despite the slight difference in their names, release films and release papers are quite different from each other.

Regarding release film

Release film is produced by coating silicone release agent onto the surface of environmentally friendly materials such as PET, PE, and OPP films, allowing it to exhibit an extremely light yet stable release force for various organic pressure-sensitive adhesives.

Different organic pressure-sensitive adhesives, such as hot melt adhesives, acrylic adhesives, and rubber-based pressure-sensitive adhesives, require different release forces from the release film. Depending on the viscosity of the adhesive used in isolation products, the release force is adjusted accordingly to achieve a very light and stable release force during peeling.

Release films can be divided into the following categories based on different substrates:

PE release film; PET release film, OPP release film, composite release film (i.e., the substrate is made of two or more composite materials), etc.

According to the release force, it can be divided into: light release film, medium release film, and heavy release film.

According to color, it can be divided into various colors of PET release film, such as red release film, yellow release film, green release film, blue release film, etc.

According to surface treatment, it can be divided into: single-sided release film, double-sided release film, silicone-free release film, fluoroplastic release film, single-sided corona, double-sided corona, frosted release film, matte release film, etc.

HDPE (low-pressure polyethylene) release film; used for sealing tapes and other waterproofing materials; LDPE (high-pressure polyethylene) release film; used for packaging of mechanical products, hot melt adhesive packaging, hygiene care products (diapers), anti-corrosion materials, etc.; BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) release film; used for sealing tapes, silent tapes, etc.; PET (polyethylene terephthalate) release film; double-sided release film for adhesive protection; red/green polyolefin (PE).

Double-sided release film: transparent PET double-sided release film for foam tape; double-sided adhesive sunscreen isolation film (HDPE silver coating film); enhanced aluminum-plated substrate BOPP enhanced type (BOPET) for waterproofing, sunscreen, and cooling of coiled materials.
